Why is Atacama the driest desert having Rainforests spread out on one side and The Pacific on the other???? I asked this question to my ever the ear friend Mr.Mooondu.. and what would he do but propose a vacation there.. So thats what we did.. zoom off to Atacama... whoooopeeeeee......!!!!!!!! Oh man... it is really beautiful a place to be if you can forget the dryness and the heat hitting you... We ran around a bit.. played some 'sand muffin' but it was more like sand soup.. there was no binding agent.. Pulled out some shrubs and scratched at some moss. The restless twins we were, we got bored sitting around in the middle of the desert so we started walking towards the forest..We had The Andes blocking our way.. but who can stop us??? We got there and OH MY...!!!! was it a forest??? I mean can you even call it a mere forest???? It was like walking into the black hole.... the darkness was totally engulfing.. from everywhere.. and all the creepy sounds.. chirps and hoots and buzzzzzzzzz...... that swam throughout the forest from all the sides.. it was so lovely in a scary sort of way... Tall tall trees.. green green everywhere.. insects whooshing around... wow....
It got us in spirits and we just couldnt wait to see the other end of the desert.. we ran all the way across.. and there it lay.. wide and open.. vast and in vain... blue blue blue......never ending.... The Pacific... We ran straight into the waters.. oh so cool.... we splashed and wade and scrambled about.... The perfect vacation...
We were content with our choice.. we spent the rest of the day running through the desert.. to the rainforests and back to the ocean... and we even got company.. A desert Chilla... cute little thing.. and it accompanied us on our rounds to and fro.. a lively untiring sweetheart... Well we had to leave him there.. But Mr.Mooondu is adamant bout goingback there again.. Hell-bent upon making the desert wet.. even if it means he will have to pee all around to accomplish the grand feat....
All the Best with that...
Well.. the reason for the dryness is given so..
"The Atacama Desert in Chile is the driest desert on Earth because it is blocked from moisture on both sides (by the Andes Mountains to the east and high pressure over the Pacific at a latitude which keeps moisture from coming in from the west)."
